{"id":288,"date":"2010-04-14T10:21:09","date_gmt":"2010-04-14T14:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/judithnatellimclaughlin.com\/?p=288"},"modified":"2014-05-23T20:23:31","modified_gmt":"2014-05-23T20:23:31","slug":"glenwood-school-shout-out-and-a-teacher-shout-out-too","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/judithnatellimclaughlin.com\/?p=288","title":{"rendered":"Blog: Glenwood School Shout Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">What a day I had yesterday.\u00a0 About ten years ago, when my oldest daughter was in kindergarten, the author, Dan Gutman, came to her school.\u00a0 I was lucky enough to see him and boy, was I impressed.\u00a0\u00a0I turned to Katie&#8217;s kindergarten teacher and said, &#8220;someday, I would like to be visiting schools talking about my books!&#8221;\u00a0 And now&#8230;I am!\u00a0 My dream (with lots and lots of hard work) came true.\u00a0 I\u00a0 spent the day at the Glenwood Elementary School in Short Hills, NJ, talking to those eager learners about poetry, healthy foods and writing.\u00a0 We had a blast!\u00a0 The kids were all amazing when it came to shouting the word zucchini.\u00a0 (I think there is a hole in the roof now!)\u00a0 They were also amazing when it came to writing their own poem.\u00a0 I am posting three poems here.\u00a0 Enjoy!<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Funny Poem &#8211; Grades K &amp; 1<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My dog is Jackson<\/p>\n<p>Panda Bears are cute<\/p>\n<p>I like popcorn that pops<\/p>\n<p>I like ducks<\/p>\n<p>and dolphins too<\/p>\n<p>With the seals in water blue<\/p>\n<p>My favorite color is green<\/p>\n<p>My bird is fighting<\/p>\n<p>a little pretty butterfly<\/p>\n<p>and a great big elephant<\/p>\n<p>Roses are red and so are you<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mini Stuff &#8211; Grades 2 &amp; 3<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The sky is blue with clouds<\/p>\n<p>It would be funny if candy were falling from the sky<\/p>\n<p>Cheese gets rotten &#8211; by mice<\/p>\n<p>It stinks around here of rotten cheese<\/p>\n<p>I see a weird monkey doing ballet<\/p>\n<p>The baseball is flying very far<\/p>\n<p>Pie is yummy<\/p>\n<p>Cheese cake with cherries looks good<\/p>\n<p>Lacrosse is a sport with a ball<\/p>\n<p>People perform on a stage<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Crazy Stuff &#8211; Grades 4 &amp; 5<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mario loves to eat ice cream<\/p>\n<p>Chocolate gives you cavities<\/p>\n<p>Green monkeys taste good<\/p>\n<p>Fairies love screaming<\/p>\n<p>Grandpas love to eat chicken wings<\/p>\n<p>Tomatoes are yellow<\/p>\n<p>Crunchy belly buttons jiggle<\/p>\n<p>The other day I found cheese stuck in between my toes<\/p>\n<p>Cookies are delicious<\/p>\n<p>Soccer ballsl like doing the walkie-talk<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;\">I also had the chance to have dessert with five Glenwood students.\u00a0 We are pictured here along with librarian Shea Stansfield (Thanks, Shea!\u00a0 I loved being at your school).\u00a0 These kids read to me poems they wrote, and let me tell you, I was blown away!\u00a0 Their talent is evident.\u00a0 Thanks for sharing, gang!\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;
