{"id":290,"date":"2010-05-27T06:35:25","date_gmt":"2010-05-27T10:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/judithnatellimclaughlin.com\/?p=290"},"modified":"2014-05-23T20:21:23","modified_gmt":"2014-05-23T20:21:23","slug":"stillman-school-shout-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/judithnatellimclaughlin.com\/?p=290","title":{"rendered":"Blog: Stillman School Shout Out!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Hello to all my friends at Tenafly, NJ&#8217;s Stillman School.\u00a0 I spent the day with the teachers and students on Tueday, May 25th, and we all had a blast.\u00a0 Thank you to librarian Charlotte Shaffer for bringing me to this wonderful school.\u00a0 Here is an added fun fact, I grew up in Tenafly, so driving down Tenafly Road and passing favorite places, like Sunnyside Park, was a great, big, added bonus.\u00a0 And when Charlotte introduced me to the children, she made sure to mention I grew up in Tenafly and went to Maugham School.\u00a0 The children all seemed to think that was pretty cool.\u00a0 But here is the deal, it was the kids who were really cool.\u00a0 They were great listeners, great participants and excellent writers too.\u00a0 After each of my presentations, I taught the children a brainstoming exercise, and then, together, they wrote a poem.\u00a0 Here are their great creative works:<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">I Bought<\/span><\/strong> by, Kindergarten and First Graders<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Strawberries &#8211; RED &#8211; are very good<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I bought chocolate &#8211; just like I should<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Cinnamon has a silly scent<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Chocolate is very sweet<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Things That Make You Think<\/span><\/strong>, by Second and Third Graders<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Strawberries are red and juicy<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Purple is a beautiful color<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Gold makes me think of money<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Strawberries make me burp<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Elephants squirt water in m face<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Wax can chop you with an axe<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Carrots are healthy and orange and swet<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">A ball is very bouncy<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Death is not funny at all<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">It&#8217;s All Different Stuff<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 by, Fourth and Fifth Graders<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I like apple pie<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I like how guitar strings roam on your fingers<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I like gigantic cheese burgers<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The small cow was purple<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The frozen yogurt was poisonous<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I like chocolate ice cream<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The mice dance like ballerinas<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The chicken ate watermelon<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The llama turned around and ate some cheese<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I drink milk every morning,<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">but dairy makes me sick<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Great job kids!\u00a0I love these poems.\u00a0Keep on writing.\u00a0 Hey, let me know if you made up alliterative phrases using the names of your family members.\u00a0 If you want to share, give me a shout out at <a href=\"mailto:judy@aimwrite.net\">judy@aimwrite.net<\/a>.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll post some results right here.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I have no more author visits until September.\u00a0 I will, however, update the site periodically.\u00a0 I am growing a few veggies in my tiny back yard this year, including zucchini, tomatoes and cucumbers.\u00a0\u00a0 I will take some photos and share my results!
